CBD Pet Benefits
CBD (cannabidiol): Can be effective for pets in the same way it benefits their humans. That's because people and their vertebrate cousins are born with the same endogenous cannabinoid system, which is made of both cell-produced endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors. CBD targets these receptors-located in the brain, organs, central nervous system and immune cells-to stimulate each body function's natural job, which is to promote healing, well-being and overall health.
It's an exciting time. Remember, the endocannabinoid system was only discovered in the 1990s and we're learning more and more every day. We're making strides in supporting everything like mood, memory, sleep, appetite and reproduction. The more we learn, the more you benefit, and whether we walk on two legs or four. We're really just scrathcing the surface.
Animal experts are high on the use of CBD for several conditions in particular, particularly these:
Separation Anxiety: As is apparent in their faces when we say goodbye every morning, dogs are particularly prony to anxiety when their owners are away. Many pet owners use prescription medications to treat them, but according to two different independent reports, the two approved antidepressants for canine separation anxiety can produce vomiting and lethargy in between 45 and 85 percent of the animals that use it. CBD may be a safer option for this condition, as well as with the general anxiety that comes from traveling and hearing loud noises.
Seizures and Epilepsy: Roughly 5 percent of dogs in the U.S. suffer from seizures of one sort or another. While there's nothing conclusive as of yet, researchers believe high levels of CBD have shown promise in the management of your furry friend's seizure's. Long-term therapy has indicated there's a reduction in frequency, and, in some cases, a complete elimination of them.
Canin and Feline Arthritis: As many pet owners have learned, larger cat and dog breeds are prone to arthritis. Fortunately, CBD has been showing the same effectiveness in treatment for pets as it has for humans, since its anti-inflammatory properties target the inflammation of joints that causes the debilitating illness, as well as its accompanying pain. The good news for your pooches is that a landmark study conducted by a Cornell University-led team of researchers tested hemp-oil products on dogs and found that 80 percent of them saw significant decrease in pain and improved mobility.
