CBD Dosing & Use

If you've been thinking of purchasing CBD and you're like most people, you've been doing your research and wondering if CBD is right for you. First, lets be sure you understand the crucial difference between CBD and other cannabis derived products.

Marijuana Vs Hemp - The Crucial Difference

The cannabis plant, which has the Latin name Cannabis sativa L. has a couple of different sub-types. One of these sub-types is the marijuana plant, which is commonly refereed to as simply cannabis. This cannabis sub-type contains the intoxicating compound THC or tetrahydrocannabinol. THC is the compound which is responsible for the :high" that people get when they ingest marijuana.

Another sub-type of Cannabis sativa L. is the hemp plant. The hemp plant, unlike cannabis (marijuana), has been bred over centuries for its fiber content and its use as a textile fiber. Cultivated by colonists in Virginia to make rope, sails for their ships and even their clothing. Hemp contains a negligible amount of THC, so little in fact, that you do not get any intoxicating effect from ingesting it. The two plant sub-types, both marijuana and hemp, contain a class of chemical compounds called cannabinoids and there are more than a hundred of these compounds in Cannabis sativa L.

Determining your dose is completely personal and there is no standard dosing amount or procedure, so it can take a lot of trial and error before finding the relief you seek. It all depends on what you need it for. Before trying CBD for the first time, it's a good idea to follow these simple tips to determine your dose.

Have No Fear: Because CBD in nontoxic, new users should't worry about taking too much since there are almost no negative side effects. The risk of something bad happening is very low. We don't recommend taking anything less than 5mg ("which doesn't seem like it would do much"), working up to 15mg or even 30mg would be find, as long as you give it enough time to work - which could be days or even weeks.

Start Low & Go Slow: Since everybody is different, which means there is no one-dose-fits-all recommendation, it's critical to begin with a small amount of CBD and gradually work your way up until you get the effect you are after. This is to help facilitate your own understanding of your unique tolerances and sensitivities.

Find Full/Broad Spectrum: This means looking for products that aren't just CBD. They should have as many active compounds (from the cannabis plant) as possible. Research from Spain and Israel suggest all these compounds work better together-aka-the entourage effect-than when you just take an extracted dose of CBD.

Check Lab Results: Before you buy anything, check that the product has been tested at a thrid-party laboratory. Make sure of the level of cannabinoids and terpenes in it, the batch size it comes from, when it was created... If you don't have those test results, you don't know what you're taking. This is why we provide all 3rd party lab test results upon request for all the products we offer. Cali Cannabis CBD & Pets4CBDs is GMP compliant.

Take Notes: As you experiment with different does of CBD, keeping detailed notes about your CBD trials will help you understand what has worked best, what times of day you used it and the specifics of what the product was. This process literally puts down in block and white the information you'll need if you proceed with CBD treatments and eventually heal yourself.

Check Your Expectations: CBD is not a cure-all. Moderate   your expectations about what it can do. You've probably heard people say, "I took CBD and didn't notice any difference." But your body needs to build up to it. Take it for at least a week to see how you feel.

Beginner Tip: The starting dose for CBD ingestion is around 15mg. Consume in the evening and monitor the experience, noting any changes in symptoms, mood, etc.

Hemp Vs. Marijuana?

What is Hemp?

Hemp is the kissing cousin of the Cannabis plant. Hemp is one molecule compound away from the cannabis plant. For cannabis to be considered hemp, it legally has to have less than .3% of the intoxicating cannabinoid THC.

Hemp being dominant in CBD and Cannabis Marijuana being dominant in THC.

Whole plant Extract (.3% THC)

Full-Spectrum

Full Spectrum CBD products contain some amount of THC. They are produced using the whole cannabis plant and are considered to be the most popular because of the variety of compounds in the product.

Whole Plant Extract (No THC)

Broad-Spectrum

Broad Spectrum CBD contains zero THC. To produce a Broad Spectrum CBD product it must go one step further than Full Spectrum CBD by extracting any existing amounts of THC.

CBD in its purest form, Isolated

CBD Isolate

Refers to hemp oil where only cannabidiol is extracted and all other cannabinoids, terpenes, and oils are separated out. The main benefit to CBD isolate is that it contains zero THC since only cannabidiol is extracted from the hemp plant during processing.

Full/Broad Spectrum w/out THC

THC-Free

THC-Free products offer all the beneficial cannabinoids but without the psychoactive THC compound or Delta 9-Tetrahydrocannabinol. CBD products made with full spectrum or broad spectrum hemp oil which have only the THC removed will usually indicate 'Zero-THC" or "THC-Free" on the product packaging.

Contains No CBD or THC

Hemp Seed Oil

When people talk about hemp oil, they're referring to oil extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. There are no cannabinoids—CBD or THC—in hemp seed oil. This ingredient is packed with healthy fats and often appears in beauty products for its moisturizing benefits.

Entourage Effect

When a Hemp Oil product says FULL SPECTRUM, this means there is more in this cannabis product than a single molecule of CBD. Having multiple cannabinoids and terpenes in a hemp product creates what is known as the entourage effect.

The cleanest, greenest methods

CO2 Extraction

CO2 extraction is one of the cleanest, greenest methods of super-concentrating cannabinoids. The relatively low temperature of the process and the stability of CO2 also allows most compounds to be extracted with little damage or denaturing.
